Skoda increases pressure on Volkswagen with Enyaq iV Coupé

The electric Skoda Enyaq iV is sold better in the Netherlands this year than the Volkswagen ID.3 and ID.4 combined. With a coupé variant of the popular electric SUV, Skoda is increasing the pressure again. It will be unveiled at the end of January 2022.

Lease drivers love SUVs and electric cars. In order to distinguish yourself a bit from your fellow lease drivers, you might want something that is just that little bit different. And voilà: then the electric coupé SUV offers a solution. Volkswagen applies this trick with the ID4 and the soon-to-be-released ID.5, and Skoda is now following with the Enyaq iV Coupé. At the moment, Skoda only shows a camouflaged version, but secretly we already know what the car looks like, because in 2019 Skoda already showed the Vision iV.

Very favorable streamline

We expect a modified taillight, but the biggest difference with the regular Enyaq iV is of course the lower roofline. Together and the slanted rear window, this ensures that the Enyaq iV Coupé has a very favorable aerodynamics. The Cw value of the coupé is an incredibly beautiful 0.247, against 0.27 for the regular Enyaq iV. In theory that is fine for consumption, yet the range of the rear-wheel drive coupé version with the largest battery pack (iV 80) is no greater than that of the regular Enyaq with the strongest battery.

Slightly less luggage space

The sporty coupé line eats a few liters from the trunk. That is 570 liters, compared to 585 in the regular Enyaq iV. The car is standard on 19-inch alloy, but those who would like the largest wheels on the street can also order an Enyaq Coupé with 21-inch alloys.

Three versions for now

In addition to the iV80, the Enyaq Coupé will also be available as an iV 60 and iV80x, the latter of which has four-wheel drive. The battery pack of the Enyaq Coupé iV 60 has a battery capacity of 62 kWh (net 58 kWh), which powers a 180 hp electric motor. The electric motor of the Enyaq Coupé iV 80 has a capacity of 204 hp and is linked to a battery pack of 82 kWh (net 77 kWh). With this, it comes 535 kilometers according to the WLTP cycle.

Enyaq Coupé also as four-wheel drive

The top model of the Enyaq series will be the four-wheel drive Coupé iV 80x for the time being. It has the same battery pack as the iV80, but has a second electric motor and four-wheel drive, just like the Volkswagen ID.4 GTX. The total available power is 265 hp, clearly less than the 299 hp that the ID.4 GTX produces. But with the arrival of an RS version (306 hp), that gap is being made up again. Due to its higher weight, the range of the Enyaq Coupé iV 80x is expected to be slightly lower than that of the rear-wheel drive variant.

Skoda Enyaq outsells ID.3 and ID.4 combined

You can fully charge the Skoda Enyaq Coupé in six to eight hours using an 11 kW wallbox (alternating current). The fast charging power is 125 kW. That is neat, but a lot lower than the Hyundai Ioniq 5. The coupé models of the Skoda Enyaq iV will be for sale from the beginning of 2022: Volkswagen, get your chest wet, because so far Skoda has already sold more than 5100 Enyaqs in the Netherlands, while the Volkswagen ID.4 got stuck at just under 3000 units and the ID.3 did not go further than 1100 cars.
