Yes, you read that right. Skoda comes with a fully open version of the Scala! However, there is a caveat.
Since 2014, Skoda has instructed students from its vocational training to build one special model every year. Last year, the bizarre Mountiaq, a pick-up version of the Kodiaq, was the result. There is no shortage of creativity this year either, as this year the club of 20 students is working on a fully open version of the Scala!
The as yet unnamed Scala ‘spider’ only gets two seats and has a rear deck with two striking bumps, a design element that we see more often with spiders and speedsters. It is already the seventh creation that results from the long-term drawing, sawing and welding work of the students who follow a course at Skoda. In June we will see the end result, so please be patient.
In 2014, students from Skoda’s vocational training were responsible for the Citijet, a Citigo converted into a convertible. The following year, the student team signed for the Funstar, a cut-open Fabia most reminiscent of a reincarnation of the Felicia Fun. In 2016 this special Atero was the end result and in 2017 we were introduced to the Skoda Element. In 2018, the Karoq was stripped of its roof and last year the Kodiaq was transformed into a pick-up.
