Apparently not such an exciting test car drives past our spy photographer. Yet there is more to this Skoda Superb than you would initially think.
Although the current Skoda Superb still looks fairly fresh, this generation is already quite old with its six years. The end is therefore in sight, only there has been no concrete sign of a successor to date. There has already been talk about its arrival in 2023 – side by side with the next Volkswagen Passat – but Skoda has not yet given more guidance. The Superb that can be seen in the photos here may give you that footing.
Skoda is logically no longer planning any major changes to the current Superb. This almost certainly means that this is a so-called ‘mule’, which conceals technology from the next generation. The fact that Skoda has packed the nose and the ass quite a bit seems to have to hide one specific thing at most: the Superb is going to grow. If you look closely, you can see that the front bumper sticks out further than usual and also – don’t quote us on that – the overhang at the rear seems to be a bit bigger than we know from the Superb.
The technical basis of the next generation Skoda Superb is expected to be a further development of the current MQB variant that features the great Czech. Count on the well-known (mild-hybrid) TSI engines and also plug-in hybrid versions. Furthermore, we can logically expect a solid evolution rather than a revolution in terms of design. Good news for those who are charmed by the current Superb. Just a little patience…
The Skoda Superb is already 20 years old this year. AutoWeek therefore recently looked back at the history of the (modern) Superb.
