Sleeping Tesla driver pulled off the road in Germany

Preconceived plan

German police have picked up a Tesla driver from the road in Bavaria who was sleeping behind the wheel. Who was driving? You guessed it: Autopilot.

We have known this kind of story from the United States for some time, but the practice is relatively new in Europe. The Tesla driver – incidentally not the man in the photo above – stood out on autobahn 70 near Bamberg, because he continued to drive for a long time without changing lanes and at the same distance behind the police car in question. The officers then said they wanted him ‘subject to a traffic control‘, but the driver did not respond to that call. After fifteen minutes, somewhere between Bamberg and Bayreuth, the man managed to wake up and the check could still take place.

The Tesla driver did not get off with a warning, but had to hand in his driver’s license. ‘Falling to sleep’ turned out to be a preconceived plan. In the car, the police found a weight specially designed to convince the Tesla steering wheel that it was being held neatly in the hand. The man also showed ‘drug-typical abnormalities’.
