If the WiFi connection is bad, looking up something on the smartphone can take a long time. Automatically switch to 4G for a better connection.
Can I use the internet with 4G?
An internet bundle is required to switch between WiFi and 4G. You pay for this with a provider. If you do not have internet in the bundle, you can only use mobile internet if WiFi is available. You can skip the tip below. Learn how to connect to Wi-Fi in the ‘Set up Wi-Fi on Android’ tip.
Automatically switch between WiFi and 4G
If the WiFi connection is weak, the phone can automatically switch to 4G. This is handy, because you always have a good connection. Internet via 4G is deducted from the data bundle.
Turn the function on like this. The steps are based on a Samsung device running Android 10.
- Tap on Institutions.
- Tap on Connections.
- Tap on WiFi.
- Tap the three dots at the top right.
- Tap on Advanced.
- Tap the slider behind ‘Switch. to mobile data” so that it turns blue.
Manually switch between WiFi and 4G
If you prefer not to have the phone automatically switch to 4G in the event of a poor WiFi connection, you can manually turn off WiFi. Then turn WiFi back on afterwards.
- Open the shortcut menu:
- Swipe down from the top edge of the screen.
- Swipe down again to see the whole quick menu.
- Tap the blue WiFi icon
to turn off Wi-Fi.
- The button turns gray. Verify that the ‘Mobile data’ icon
. is blue. If not, tap here.
Once ‘Mobile data’ is on and ‘Wi-Fi’ off, the connection will switch to 4G. If necessary, restart the app or web page you were working on if it still crashes. Don’t forget to turn the Wi-Fi back on when you’re done. Prevent the internet bundle from running out quickly.
More about mobile internet
The data you use via 4G is deducted from the internet bundle. Make sure you don’t go beyond the data limit of the bundle, because the extra costs add up quickly. Let the smartphone notify you when the limit is almost reached using the tip ‘Never go over the data limit on Samsung device’.
