Back on LPG

Lancia is busy reinventing itself, but for the time being only sells one model in one country. The small Lancia Ypsilon is now receiving another update, which includes an LPG engine.
At Lancia they apparently have a thing for ‘returning’. In addition to a return for the brand outside Italy, there is now also the return of an old acquaintance under the hood of the Lancia Ypsilon. Just like in 2011, it is now introduced to an LPG version, which, just like in 2011, is propelled by a 1.2-liter Fire four-cylinder with 69 hp. This means that this version of the Ypsilon has a slightly larger engine than the petrol alternative. That remains a 1.0 Fire engine with three cylinders and mild-hybrid support, good for 70 hp.
The LPG version is available in one version, the ‘Ecochic’, and is the most expensive Ypsilon in the series at €18,100. Lancia is also tinkering with the equipment levels for the mild-hybrid versions. There are fewer of them, and what remains is more chic and luxurious. ‘Silver’ no longer exists at all, so ‘Oro’ (gold) is now the basis. That version is available from €15,950. One step higher is the Platino (platinum), for which Lancia asks €17,500.
Still popular
The current generation Lancia Ypsilon is so old that it was even ‘normally’ delivered in the Netherlands. That says something, because the brand has not been active outside Italy for about nine years. The current generation of the Ypsilon has been around since 2011, although there are regular updates. The only real facelift dates from 2015, but even after that Lancia has updated the small Ypsilon here and there. Not without reason, by the way, because the Ypsilon is remarkably popular in Italy. In 2019, the brand even sold more cars with this one model and in one country than Alfa Romeo as a whole, while the Ypsilon was the second best-selling model in 2022 (the Fiat Panda) (source: Bestsellingcarsblog).
