History repeats itself

Mini’s current generation range of three- and five-door hatchbacks are on their last legs. The smallest of the bunch – the three-door – manages to reach one million built units just before its retirement.
Mini is about to replace its hatchbacks and the Countryman. The three and five-door hatchbacks are followed by a model simply called Cooper. The current three-door reaches another production milestone at the last minute. After all, one million copies have been built.
Mini started production of its current three-door hatchback in Oxford in 2013 and that birthplace is also the location where the millionth example saw the light of day. Incidentally, Oxford is not the only place where Mini builds the three-door, VDL Nedcar in Born in the Netherlands also produced the model.
As mentioned, the Mini Cooper is already eager to take over the baton from the three and five-door hatchbacks. As with the outgoing generation, the three-door comes first. Versions with combustion engines will also be available, but the Cooper will be the first to appear on the price lists with fully electric powertrains. The five-door Cooper will not have an electric variant and will soon only be available with combustion engines. For a relatively compact electric five-door, Mini has the Aceman in the barrel from 2025. Curious about what the new electric three-door Mini Cooper will look like? Then click here or here.
