Smart #2: electric two-seater will succeed ForTwo next year

The Smart ForTwo is on its last legs. Next year, Smart will stop production of its small city car, which is only available as an EV, but it will not remain without a successor. Next year we will be introduced to the electric Smart #2: that will also be a small two-seater.

Earlier this year, through Smart CEO Dirk Adelmann, we were able to report that Smart is putting model name #2 on the car that will replace the current generation ForTwo. It was also known that Smart will definitively stop producing the ForTwo in 2024. It was not yet officially known that the successor to the ForTwo would be available shortly afterwards. It is now.

Smart says that it will launch a new model on the market next year. It describes the car as its ‘long-awaited smart two-seater’. That can only be one car: the #2 that will succeed the ForTwo. According to Smart, it is currently busy developing the technical basis of that car. Whether the Smart #2 will be on the same platform as the #1 and #3 remains to be seen. Geely could possibly use the technology of the Geometry M2/Panda for the Smart #2, but nothing is officially known about this. Although the small two-seater will be called #2, it will not be positioned above the larger #1 despite its model name suggesting otherwise.
