Lower and longer than the #1

Do you think the Smart #1 is a good model for a Smart? Then wet your chest. This is the Smart #3: a brand new electric crossover with a sloping roofline that is by far the manufacturer’s largest model ever. He is also coming to the Netherlands.
During Auto China, Smart officially pulled the curtain from #3. The Smart #3 is Smart’s second new all-electric model after the #1 since it was half owned by the Chinese Geely. It is therefore not surprising that the Smart #3 elaborates on the design and technology of the Smart #1, which was unveiled a year ago.

Smart #3
Smart does not release extensive technical data yet. However, for those who regularly visit AutoWeek.nl, the Smart #3 has few surprises. We were able to show you the first photos of the Smart #3 back in November last year and at the same time we also received the first specifications. The Smart #3 will be exactly 4.4 meters long, which makes it 13 centimeters longer than the current #1, which so far could call itself the largest Smart ever. The Smart #3 is clearly suffused with the same Mercedes-Benz developed design language as the #1. From the B-pillar, however, the roofline of the #3 slopes much more sharply. Smart calls the #3 itself an SUV with a ‘fastback silhouette’. The Smart #3 is about eight centimeters lower than the #1. The wheelbase of Smart’s latest model is about 4 centimeters longer than that of the #1 at 2.79 meters.

Smart
In the interior, Smart screws include a digital instrument panel and a 12.3-inch large horizontally oriented display that is centrally located in the dashboard. The dashboard itself is very similar to that of the smaller #1, the main difference being that the #3 has three round air vents in the center console instead of two flat ones.
The Smart #3 will in any case be available as a 272 hp rear-wheel drive. There will also be a variant that, in addition to that electric motor, has a second electric motor that adds 156 hp and that only deals with the front axle. The most powerful Brabus version can even be seen in the photos.
In September this year, Smart will release more information about the Smart #3 as it comes to the Netherlands. Then the variant intended for the European market will make its public debut during the IAA in Munich.
Smart #2
According to CEO Dirk Adelmann, Smart also has model name #2 in its sights. Smart wants to stick that name on a successor to the current generation ForTwo. In 2024, Smart will stop producing the ForTwo, which is now only available with an electric powertrain. As far as naming is concerned, the Smart model range is therefore not getting any clearer.
