Everyone is an art connoisseur with Smartify: an impressive app that allows your iPhone to recognize artworks and provide background information.
Smartify turns everyone into an art connoisseur
Thanks to apps like Shazam, you’ll never have to wonder what song you’re listening to again. With the push of a button, your iPhone listens along and then presents the song, the artist and all the info you need. Smartify is now doing something similar, but with pieces of art in museums.

By using the camera in your iPhone, Smartify scans a painting. If the artwork matches the app’s database, you can read more about it right away. In this way you will discover not only who made the painting, but also the story behind it and other works by the painter. A bit like the audio tours that some museums offer.
With the handy collection function you can also easily put together your own art collection. Every time you scan a painting that you want to know more about later, you can add it to your collection. Handy for times when you want to know more about it later, even if you are not near the canvas. The app also works when you photograph a card or image of a painting.
Smartify and the Rijksmuseum
The only problem that Smartify still has is the limited database of the app. Fortunately, that will change in May when the app is officially launched. In addition to specific works in the Louvre and the Met in New York, the entire Rijksmuseum will be added to the app. This makes the app immediately relevant for a Dutch audience, which is undoubtedly also the reason that the full app is available in Dutch.
