The social app Snapchat has released an update to celebrate its sixth anniversary. From now on it is possible to use filters that change the sky into, for example, a starry sky.
Snapchat air filters
Snapchat has released a free update to its app. This allows you to use air filters, among other things. As soon as the app recognizes that you have put the sky in the photo, you can place a filter over it. That works like other filters in Snapchat: after the photo you just swipe to the side until a filter is placed over the sky.
The app recognizes which part of the photo is the sky and replaces (part of) it with a filter. For example, Snapchat shows a golden sky with geese, a dark sky with stars or a rainbow. These filters are a lot more realistic than the face masks and work quite well, although the result is not always beautiful.
Something different every day
It is also not possible to choose the filter yourself. Every time Snapchat decides what fits best for you. According to Snapchat, the range of air filters changes daily to keep them fresh and surprising.
Snapchat recently supplemented the app with more augmented reality functions. With 3D Bitmoji lenses, users can have their drawn image dance on the floor, have a barbecue or play with a fidget spinner.
Snapchat is six years old
Snapchat has been around for six years today. According to the company, one in five smartphone users now uses Snapchat on a daily basis. More than 70 percent of Dutch Snapchat users are older than eighteen. Worldwide there are 173 million daily users and a total of more than 3 billion Snaps are sent every day.
