Snapchat is now available on iPhone and iPad. Curious about how Snapchat works on the bigger screen? We’ll tell you how to use Snapchat on iPad!
Snapchat on the iPad
Snapchat has been available on the iPhone since 2011 and is still a hugely popular app. It took a while, but now there is also a special Snapchat app available for the iPad. Users with an iPad could already use the application by installing the iPhone version. Black bars appeared around the app, because Snapchat had not yet been adapted to the iPad’s image format.
Snapchat has now released an official app for the iPad. Very handy, because you don’t always have to have your iPhone at hand. You can open photos and videos of your friends on Snapchat via the tablet, just like it was previously possible on the iPhone. Are you planning to install the app on your tablet? Then download Snapchat for free via the App Store here:
How to use the free app
Have you installed Snapchat on your iPad? Then you can log in with the same account as you use on your iPhone. Do you still need to create an account? Then choose ‘Sign in’ as soon as you have opened Snapchat on your iPad. There you set a username and password. You can then create a profile for free with the app. Please note that you can only change your username once a year.
After logging in, you can add friends by looking up their usernames or by syncing your contacts with Snapchat. Sending photos, videos, and text messages is easy after that. To do this, open Snapchat on your iPad and go to the tab with the camera. Tap the white circle in the middle of the screen to take a photo. Would you rather make a video? To make a video, press and hold the white circle on the camera screen.
Snapchat will automatically start recording if you keep the white circle pressed. After taking a photo or video, you will be given the opportunity to edit the images. To do this, use the menu bar on the right of the screen, or swipe through the app to try out different filters. Are you satisfied with the message? Then choose ‘Send to’. There you can select all contacts to send the Snapchat to.
Snapchat Plus offers more features
With Snapchat on the iPad, you get access to most of the app’s basic features, just like the iPhone version. Want to use more advanced features? Then you also have the option to pay for Snapchat Plus. This is a subscription for which you pay 34.99 euros per year (or 2.92 per month). You then get several benefits that you do not have as a free user.
This lets you personalize Snapchat more by customizing the app icon or setting chat backgrounds. You also get access to exclusive AI features and your story will stay available for longer if you want it to. There’s a single subscription for iPhone and iPad, so you won’t pay more once you install Snapchat on iPad. For most users, the free version of Snapchat is more than enough.
Snapchat Limitations on iPad
To use Snapchat on the iPad, you no longer need an iPhone, unlike services like WhatsApp. You only need to log in to the app via your tablet and you can get started right away. This puts Snapchat ahead of other social media, which often do not have a dedicated application for iPadOS. For example, we are still waiting for an adapted version of Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads.
With Snapchat on the iPad, the larger screen gives you much more space to edit your photos and videos. Unfortunately, it is not (yet) possible to use the app in horizontal orientation, Snapchat does not yet support this. However, it is Snapchat now available on Macallowing you to open the app on almost all of your Apple devices. Learn more about Snapchat here!
