Snapchat lets you contribute to stories with friends

Snapchat has introduced a new feature that allows you to create a story together with friends.

Custom Stories on Snapchat

The new feature is called ‘Custom Stories’ and on Tuesday Snapchat started rolling out to users. They can use this to invite friends to make one story together with a group, instead of all kinds of separate stories. This can be done worldwide, but also in a specific place. That’s nice when a group of friends is at a festival, for example.

The app hopes to attract new users with this story feature. It is getting more and more difficult for Snapchat to differentiate itself as other apps such as Instagram have copied many of Snapchat’s features.

The contributions to a Custom Story all automatically disappear after 24 hours if no one has added anything more. In addition, the group admin (the one who initially invites everyone) has the authority to delete entire stories.

Create Custom Story on Snapchat

Creating a Custom Story with others works as follows:

  1. Open Snapchat, take a photo or video and tap the send button;
  2. Next to ‘Stories’, choose ‘Create story’;
  3. Enter name for the group, add friends and indicate who can watch;
  4. Tap Create Story.

Story on location

Snapchat also offers the possibility to create a so-called geofence. With that, users indicate an area in which friends can contribute to the story. That area is about a neighborhood. It is not known whether we can also use this in the Netherlands. Previously, the geofence function was not available here.

The Snapchat app is free to download for iOS. Worldwide, the service has 166 million users, but also in the Netherlands there are millions (mainly young) people who use the app.
