Spotify renews iPhone app: Music library gets a refresh

Your library in Spotify will now look completely different. Purpose of the change? Make sure you find your favorite music and podcasts faster.

iPhone update for Spotify: music library gets a refresh

5,000 hours of audio are added to Spotify every day. Even if only a fraction of all these songs, albums, and podcasts end up in your library, things can quickly become cluttered.

That is why Spotify is rolling out a new update from today that makes your music library clearer. You can find the new menu by pressing the search icon in the app.

Spotify renews iPhone app: Music library gets a refresh

Spotify is saying goodbye to the traditional format based on music and podcasts. From now on, these labels are jointly placed next to each other. What’s new is that you can use so-called dynamic filters. For example, you can search for downloaded podcast episodes, or songs by a specific artist within a playlist.

Would you like to take a closer look at the cover art of a song or podcast? Then tap the square icon next to the search bar. All your recently played music is now no longer displayed in a list, but as squares next to each other.

Furthermore, it is now possible to pin up to four albums, songs or podcasts to the top of the search field. This means you always have your favorite audio within reach.

The update will roll out to all iPhone users this week. Do you still see the old music library? Then it’s your turn to come.

Spotify becomes audio app

The update is in line with Spotify’s revised strategy. Last year, the company announced that it would no longer be a music service, but an audio company. To reinforce those words, Spotify bought several podcasts (such as Joe Rogan’s). Last week, the company also introduced a new podcast subscription model.

For iPhone users with Spotify, the iOS 14.5 update published this week is especially interesting. You can now set Spotify as the default music service via Siri. You can read how that works in the tip below.
