This is the SsangYong Korando e-Motion, the brand’s first electric car ever. The SsangYong Korando e-Motion comes up to 339 kilometers on a full battery and is immediately the most powerful Korando that you will soon be able to buy in the Netherlands.

  • 190 hp, always front-wheel drive
  • In 2022 in the Netherlands

It has been known for some time that SsangYong’s first electric car would be an electric version of the Korando. With the e-SIV Concept, the brand already previewed an electric SUV based on that model in 2018 and the brand released a first photo of the car in the middle of this year. In October AutoWeek published new images and first information obtained from a reliable source about the SUV and now we have all the information and extensive images of the electric SsangYong Korando e-Motion.

Anyone who had hoped for spectacular specifications due to the long run-up to the SsangYong e-Motion may be somewhat disappointed. The electric SUV will have a 190 hp and 360 Nm electric motor on the front axle. That unit helps the 1,765 kilogram Korando e-Motion to a top speed of 156 km/h. More interesting, of course, is the range. The electric SsangYong has a 61.5 kWh battery pack that gives the car a range of 339 kilometers. An empty battery pack can be charged to 88 percent of its capacity on a 100 kW charger in 33 minutes. Good news for those who sometimes hang behind their car: the Korando e-Motion can tow up to 1,500 kilos with brakes. A four-wheel drive version with two electric motors has not yet been announced. However, the 190 hp strong Korando e-Motion is the most powerful Korando that you will soon be able to buy. SsangYong supplies the car with a 163 hp 1.5 T-GDI petrol engine and a 136 hp 1.6 diesel.

In terms of dimensions, the 4.47 meter long Korando e-Motion is of course equal to petrol and diesel brothers. However, the electric Korando is immediately recognizable as such from the outside. SsangYong overloads the model with blue accents. We encounter them in the front bumper housed under the closed nose, on the side mirror caps, at the bottom of the rear doors and at the bottom of the rear is a blue skid plate. SsangYong even applies the blue color in the headlights. The design of the front and rear bumpers is different from the Korandos with combustion engines and the same applies to the wheels, which have also been given a more closed design. The tailgate of the SsangYong Korando e-Motion is located in the left front fender. More striking details: the rear lights of the Korando e-Motion have colorless glazing and the model name Korando is written in the aluminum ornament that connects the rear lights. The Korando’s with combustion engines may also have their model name proudly on the buttocks.

The interior design of the Korando e-Motion is no different from the already known versions. However, we also see blue accents here, including in the ventilation grilles, on the steering wheel and on the door panels. The stitching of the seats and the center armrest are also in blue. The luggage compartment of the electric Korando e-Motion is 551 liters and is therefore no smaller than that of the non-electric Korando. Fun fact: turning the Korando e-Motion on or off activates a sound recording with which the Korando welcomes you or says goodbye. sympathetic. SsangYong supplies the Korando e-Motion with, among other things, intelligent adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam, an active lane assistant and things such as blind spot detection and Rear Cross Traffic-Collision Assist.

Dutch prices are not yet available, they will follow in the run-up to the market introduction that will take place soon. coffeereans Can Do or Koreans Can Do Better?
