Start group chat in WhatsApp

Several people participate in a group conversation in WhatsApp. All chat participants will receive all messages sent in the group conversation. And they can also send messages themselves. So the participants are all chatting with each other. Handy to keep in touch with several family members at the same time or to make an appointment with a group.

Start a group chat in WhatsApp on an Android device like this:

• Open the WhatsApp app.
• Tap on chats.
• Tap the three dots at the top right .
• Tap on New group.
• Up to 256 people can join a group. (But that might be a bit too much.) Tap the contacts you want to add to the group conversation.
• Tap the green circle with the white arrow at the bottom right.
• Type a name of the group conversation in ‘Group topic’.
• Optionally add a photo:
  • Tap the circle with the camera icon.
    
  • Tap on Gallery.
  • Open the folder containing the photo and tap the photo.
  • Move the square if necessary and tap Ready.
• Tap the green circle with the check mark.

The group conversation has been created and opens immediately. At the top of the screen is the name of the group and below who is in the group. Send and receive messages as usual in WhatsApp.

Start a group conversation in WhatsApp on an iPhone like this:

• Open the WhatsApp app.
• Tap on chats.
• At the top right, tap New group.
• Up to 256 people can join a group. (But that might be a bit too much.) Tap the contacts you want to add to the group conversation.
• Tap on Next one.
• Type a name of the group conversation in ‘Group topic’.
  • Optionally add a photo:

• • Open the folder containing the photo and tap the photo.
  • Tap on Choose.
• Tap on make.

The group conversation has been created and opens immediately. At the top of the screen is the name of the group and below who is in the group. Send and receive messages as usual in WhatsApp.
