Statement: ‘Always a maximum speed of 100 km/h is fine’

Get rid of those 130 km/h in the evening and night?

Statement: ‘Always a maximum speed of 100 km/h is fine’

On the German autobahn you can press the accelerator as deeply as your car heart desires, but in the Netherlands we are bound to different speed limits. On various routes you can drive 130 km/h in the evening and at night. But, isn’t it just fine to lower that speed limit to 100 km/h? High time for the following statement: ‘Always a maximum speed of 100 km/h is fine.’

In March 2020, the maximum speed on all Dutch highways was increased to 100 km/h during the day. However, that does not mean that you are not allowed to drive faster than 100 km/h anywhere in the Netherlands. On various routes where you were allowed to drive 130 km/h during the day before 2020, this is still allowed between 7 pm and 6 am. In The Hague, there are voices in favor of a maximum speed of 100 km/h also in the evening and at night on all highways. Isn’t driving 100 km/h just fine?

Those who drive at 100 km/h drive more economically than those who drive at 130 km/h. Fuel is already expensive enough. In addition, lower consumption goes hand in hand with lower emissions and everyone would benefit from this, you would think. Do you agree, or do you think the government should not be so patronizing? There are plenty of reasons to be for or against lowering the speed limit. Perhaps you are of the opinion that, according to the German model, no speed limit should apply at all on parts of the Dutch motorway network, or perhaps you think that we should all be allowed to drive a maximum of 80 km/h.

As you can see, we are very curious about your opinion! Time for a voting round in which we posit the following statement:

‘Always a maximum speed of 100 km/h is fine.’

Can you find yourself in that? Why yes, or why not?

You can leave explanations and arguments in the comments. And, as always, your opinion does not have to be someone else’s. We should all be on AutoWeek.nl because we have a thing for cars, so be kind to each other and try not to let yourself be drawn out too much.
