Statement: ‘I will leave the car parked more often in 2023’

The turn of the year is approaching and that is traditionally the time for good intentions. Driving is certainly not getting any cheaper, so 2023 may well be the year in which you leave the car at home more often. Various arguments can be put forward for this.

In the car world, 2022 was, among other things, the year of sky-high fuel costs. The prices for petrol and diesel were higher than ever and you regularly paid hefty rates for the kWh you pumped into your EV. Petrol and diesel prices have fallen slightly again, but don’t forget that there is still a lower excise duty. From 1 July 2023 you will again pay the full amount of excise duty for car fuels. Incidentally, motor vehicle tax will increase in 2023 and it is certainly not the case that your car insurance will just become cheaper next year. On the contrary. In short: leaving the car at home can save you money in 2023.

Perhaps those costs are not even your motivation to leave the car. Maybe at the turn of the year you toast to your brand new resolution to save the environment. More often by bike or on foot instead of by car to the supermarket? Or maybe the traffic jam in which you waste every morning and evening drives you crazy. Or maybe you are planning to go by car more often. Nothing is as comfortable as going through life in your own warm private space, without staring straight into the face of your fellow commuter when you have to stand on the train again. We’ll just name something.
