Statement: ‘Political plans about driving influence my voting behavior’

What do you think is really important?

Statement: ‘Political plans about driving influence my voting behavior’

On November 22, the majority of eligible voters will – hopefully – go to the polls. It is time again for the House of Representatives elections. Time for the question of questions: do the plans of the political parties in the field of car mobility and everything that comes with it influence your voting behavior?

The car plays a major role in the daily lives of a huge number of Dutch residents. If you don’t go to work by car every day, you may have to rely on your trusty four-wheeler to visit friends or family in villages or cities that are not easy to reach by public transport. The major role that the car plays in Dutch society means that we all stand up when new plans are announced that limit car mobility or make it more expensive.

26 parties are participating in the House of Representatives election on November 22. Most of them have plans that affect driving and everything surrounding it. Some people are more concerned about the motorist’s wallet than others. For example, NSC says it is committed to keeping car use affordable and is against kilometer tax. The playing field between EVs and fuel cars should be more level and fuel prices should not deviate too much from those of neighboring countries. GroenLinks/PvdA opts for the environmental perspective and believes that ‘the polluter must pay’. For example, the partnership is in favor of road pricing and, if possible, only wants to allow the sale of electric vehicles by 2030. In the context of ‘better traffic flow’, BBB wants to reduce the maximum speed on the highway to 130 km/h and wants to invest in sustainable fuels, among other things.

You already notice: it goes from hot to here. Environmental zones, MRB, electric driving, subsidies, road pricing, fuel excise duties, route checks: there are piles of hot issues. So it’s high time for the statement:

‘The plans that political parties have regarding driving influence my voting behavior on November 22.’

Does that statement apply to you, or not? You can provide explanations and arguments in the comments. As always, your opinion does not have to be someone else’s. If all goes well, we are all on AutoWeek.nl because we have a thing for cars, so be kind to each other and don’t let yourself be provoked. Above all, respect the (political) preference of others!
