Stellantis and Amazon team up

Stellantis and Amazon will work together on various levels. Including in the field of software for autonomous driving. Amazon also wants to deliver packages with electric delivery vans of the Stellantis brands.

Stellantis and Amazon want to develop cars and trucks that use Amazon software to compete with Tesla in self-driving vehicles. In addition, Stellantis, parent company of brands such as Peugeot, Opel, Fiat and Citroën, will supply electric vans to be used for deliveries from Amazon’s online stores. The partnership was announced at the Consumer Electric Show (CES) in Las Vegas, which kicked off Wednesday.

The announcement follows last month’s announcement that Stellantis plans to generate billions in additional revenue from automotive software. Previously, partnerships had already been concluded with technology group Foxconn, BMW and Google subsidiary Waymo. The latter is especially important for the development of self-driving cars, but Amazon is now adding to it.

By 2030, 34 million Stellantis cars should be equipped with software products that can be monetized through subscriptions. There are now about 12 million. “We will lay the groundwork for Stellantis to transform from a traditional automaker to a global leader in software-driven development,” Amazon chief executive Andy Jassy said in a statement.
