Stolen brand new Lancia Ypsilon ends up in the water

Well before Lancia plans to show the new Ypsilon itself, the brand’s first new car in years has already appeared in public without any stickers. In a way that no one expected.

Earlier this month, AutoWeek was able to show you the first spy photos of the all-new Lancia Ypsilon. The new Ypsilon will be the car with which Stellantis brings Lancia back to markets outside the Italian home market. The packed test sample that we recently presented to you already gave away interesting details of the new Ypsilon. The new Ypsilon seems to get quite a few design elements from the Opel Corsa, of which it will become a technical brother. Now the new Lancia Ypsilon is reappearing in an almost literal sense and we shouldn’t go there alone the French L’Est Républicanbut also a member of the thieves’ guild.

L’Est Républican published a report about a stolen car that was fished out of the water in the town of Montbéliard. What seems? The car in question is not an Audi RS6 Avant with a ram raid ahead of it, but a copy of the completely new Lancia Ypsilon. Even without camouflage stickers. The soaking wet new Lancia Ypsilon was fished out of the water and that also produced interesting detail shots.

The tailgate in particular and the integrated, almost table-like rear spoiler give away that this is the new Ypsilon. Although the fact that the Lancia brand name is written on it obviously helps too. Also striking: the car gets Y-shaped elements in the wheels and in the strikingly shaped, round and apparently covered rear light units. The snout of the Ypsilon reminds us – if we look at it through our eyelashes – somewhat of that of the Nissan Juke. More interesting details: the Ypsilon seems to get rear doors with handles hidden in the C-pillar, Lancai gives it black plastic wheel arch edges and an optically rising shoulder line.
