Stranded campers are subject to MOT postponement

Campers who are stranded abroad with the Corona virus with their motor homes can be granted a postponement for the MOT of their driving stay. Motorhome club NKC has arranged this with the RDW.

Many campers were out and about when the coronavirus spread across Europe and more and more borders were closing. According to NKC, there are 84 abandoned campers in Morocco alone that participated in one of the large group trips. The owners were on their own and flew back home by plane. Because it is unclear when such stranded motorhomes, or motor home owners who are stranded at all abroad, can come to the Netherlands, owners can get stuck with the MOT of their motorhomes.

Without MOT, the owners risk a fine if they do hit the road. In addition, this can have an effect on their insurance. However, these affected owners can now report to the RDW after which telephone consultation takes place. The approved status of the motorhome can then be extended by a maximum of three months.
