Subaru comes with a special version of the BRZ: the ‘Cup Car Basic’. With this version Subaru literally competes with Toyota in Japan.
The Subaru BRZ, unlike the Toyota GR 86, is not on the market here. Nevertheless, this implementation deserves attention. With the ‘Cup Car Basic’ Subaru and Toyota are jointly creating a brand race: the ‘Toyota Gazoo Razing GR86/BRZ Cup’. Drivers of a GR86 and BRZ can therefore compete together on the circuit. In addition to Subaru, Toyota also comes with a comparable ‘Cup Car Basic’ version of the GR86.
First of all, the package consists of striking 16-inch steel wheels. You don’t see steel wheels without hubcaps in today’s car market, especially not on a sports coupe like the BRZ. Subaru takes into account that racers will probably put different footwear under their cars at a later stage. Furthermore, the equipment of the Cup Car Basic consists of a six-point roll cage with side bracket, attachment points for a six-point belt at the driver’s seat, the removal of the side airbags and the addition of special floor mats that fit around the roll cage. To save technology during races, the BRZ is equipped with an air-cooled oil cooler and the differential has cooling fins behind.
The Cup Car Basic is available in seven colors and costs the equivalent of €25,361 in Japan. It is not known whether you immediately paid the registration fee for the brand race. Subaru also does not mention whether you can still go on public roads with the Cup Car Basic.
