Subaru BRZ tS

Subaru’s cousin of the Toyota GR86 gets a new sporty version, but it’s not about a full-fledged STI derivative that revives the times of the fierce Imprezas. Meet the Subaru BRZ tS.

Tuned by STI. That’s what the letters tS stand for, which Subaru sticks behind the new top version of the BRZ. The Subaru BRZ tS is actually a slightly sharper BRZ, which made its world debut in November 2020. It gets a chassis tuned by sports division Subaru Tecnica International (STI) with dampers from Hitachi and extra potent brakes from Brembo. That set of biting brakes consists of four-piston calipers at the front, two pistons at the rear and of course a set of larger brake discs. Subaru parks the BRZ tS on 18-inch alloys, around which it has folded Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires in size 215/40.

The Subaru BRZ tS can also be recognized from the outside by tS badges in the grille and on the tailgate. The side mirrors, like the roof antenna, are finished in black. Not just any black, but Crystal Black Silica. Yes. Subaru applies STI badges in the interior and finishes the seats and steering wheel with blue stitching. The BRZ tS has a 231 hp naturally aspirated 2.4 boxer engine mated to a six-speed manual gearbox. A limited slip differential is standard. The BRZ tS is the first manual Subaru to get EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. This includes adaptive cruise control, Pre-Collision Braking System, Lane Departure + Sway Warning and Lead Vehicle Start Alert.

And what about the Toyota GR86? It has now become just as irrelevant to the Dutch market as this Subaru BRZ. The Toyota GR86 is unfortunately no longer available in the Netherlands.
