Subaru Justy (1996) – Into the Wild

Before Subaru started using its Justy badge to bring models from other brands to the Subaru man, there was one real ‘own’ Justy. Although; the facelift that that model underwent was so extensive that you can almost speak of two different generations. Today in In the Wild a very late copy from after the facelift.

First a moment to thank AutoWeek forum user ‘afentoe’, because he has been good for many ‘In the Wild’ lately. After a Fiat 850 and the Lomax from yesterday, it is now time to highlight a Subaru Justy captured by Afentoe. Thanks!

The Justy in question is an example from 1996 and therefore one of the very last Justys that was delivered in the Netherlands. If we are talking about the original Justy, then. The Japanese also later supplied the compact model in our country, but then as a car from another brand with a Subaru badge on it. For example, the second Justy was a Suzuki Swift, the third a Suzuki Ignis and the fourth a Daihatsu Sirion. Or at least; they were Subaru’s all-wheel drive variations of two of those models. The last Sirion also had no four-wheel drive as Subaru Justy.

The recently spotted Subaru Justy is – as it should be – fully powered. Add to that the fact that it is a copy with a 1.2 and a CVT, and you would think that the car cannot be moved forward. However, that is not too bad: with a 0 to 100 of 14.6 seconds (specified by the factory), it must be possible to keep up with the traffic, under the nice roar of the three-cylinder.

New owner

The one and only Subaru Justy came on the market in 1984, and underwent its extensive facelift in 1989. Before the facelift, it looked almost completely different, with not only different bumper work and light units, but also most of the sheet metal. The whole became much rounder than the original Justy, which was still drawn in the style of the early 1980s. However, more of the squarer of the two were sold in the Netherlands. In fact, the first Justy is the brand’s second best-selling car ever in the Netherlands. The first place has been kept warm for years by the Mini Jumbo.

Just like that car, however, you hardly see copies of the Justy driving around. Of course, most of them came on the market well before 1996 (1989 was the best year of the Justy), which didn’t help, but Justys were also popular in export and with the rust ghost. However, this bright red still seems to look great, for which tribute to the brand new owner. The car was re-registered last month by a private individual. Have fun with it!

Still bright red!
