The Subaru Outback is by itself almost the ultimate station wagon for the rougher work, but it can always be a bit more adventurous according to the Japanese. That’s where this Wilderness Edition comes in.
The current Subaru Outback, which was unveiled just two years ago, naturally already looks adventurous. With its four-wheel drive, high ground clearance, skid plates and plastic protective parts, it should already be able to stand its ground when you’re on worse roads. Yet there is room for more, as these photos prove. Subaru is working on a ‘Wilderness Edition’ of the Outback.
You don’t have to take a closer look to see that this Outback is even higher on its legs than usual. Also, the stickers cannot completely hide that the carriage is better prepared for the whims of nature. For example, the bumpers both front and rear seem a bit more ‘raised’ upwards to create more ground clearance. We also expect some sturdier skid plates underneath to beat off rocks and other bodywork-destroying things. Finally, the extra rugged Outback reigns supreme vandal-proof wheels with thicker all-terrain tires around it.
The Wilderness Edition of the Outback will probably be unveiled this year for the American market, among others. Here in the Netherlands there seems to be too little market to be able to count on it, but never say never.
