This is the Subaru Solterra, a brand new electric SUV whose appearance is most likely familiar to you. The electric Solterra is therefore the twin brother of the Toyota bZ4X. The Solterra will come to Europe in the second half of 2022.
Toyota recently pulled the curtain on the bZ4X, the first in a series of new electric models from that brand. The bZ4X was developed together with Subaru. While Toyota was mainly responsible for the development of the electric powertrains, Subaru has mainly focused on the development of four-wheel drive. The car is not reserved for Toyota, Subaru comes with its own version of that electric SUV. This is the Subaru Solterra, a car that will be heading our way in the second half of next year.
It should come as no surprise that the Solterra is very similar to its Toyota brother, but there are differences in appearance. The Solterra, for example, has headlights with a different layout, copies that have to do without the ‘eyelids’ of the bZ4X. A more striking design difference is the black bezel in the front, which is reminiscent of the shape of a traditional grille. The bZ4X does not have this. We also observe fog lamps in the front bumper of the Solterra and there are also optical differences at the rear. The rear lights are actually different in shape and have a spur at the bottom. Also, unlike those of the electric Toyota, the units are not made up of LED stripes.
The interior of the Solterra – except for the logos – completely corresponds to that of the Toyota bZ4X. The technology of the Solterra also corresponds to its Japanese sister model. The Solterra is also on the E-TNGA platform. The Solterra is 4.69 meters long, 1.86 meters wide and 1.65 meters high. The wheelbase is 2.85 meters and there too we see no difference with the bZ4X. Just like the bZ4X, the Subaru Solterra will not only be available with four-wheel drive, but also with front-wheel drive. The front-wheel drive version has a 204 hp and 265 Nm strong electric motor on the front axle. The four-wheel drive variant has two 218 hp and 336 Nm strong electric motors. The battery pack is 71.4 kWh in all cases. Indeed, just like with the bZ4X. Count on an electric range of up to 450 kilometers. The Solterra has an empty weight of 1,930 kilos, the four-wheel drive version is worth 2,020 kilos. The weight of the bZ4X was not yet known, so the unveiling of the Solterra also gives you a better idea.
The Solterra will arrive in Europe in the second half of next year and may also enrich the Dutch delivery range.
