Used electric cars are popular

It is now more than three months since the cap of a new subsidy pot was turned to stimulate the purchase of new and used electric cars. Of the €99.4 million that was available in SEPP purchase subsidy at the beginning of the year, almost 70 percent is still left after 3.5 months. The most striking news? The part of the subsidy that is intended for the purchase of a used electric car is running out faster than the part that is intended for new EVs.
Of the €99.4 million with which the SEPP subsidy pot was filled from January 10 this year, €67 million is intended to boost the sale (and private lease) of new electric cars with a catalog value of up to €45,000. You can receive a compensation of €2,950 on a new EV with a list price of up to 45 grand. Of that €67 million, €20.47 million has currently been forgiven (30.6 percent), according to figures from RVO that AutoWeek has examined.
This means that purchase subsidies have been applied for for 6,939 new electric cars. There is still €46.53 million (69.4 percent) available, which means that a subsidy can still be applied for for 15,773 new electric cars.
Purchase subsidy for used electric car
Of the €32.4 million available at the beginning of this year to encourage the purchase of a used electric car with an original list value of up to €45,000, €10.65 million (32.9 percent) has been forgiven at the time of writing. Given the compensation of €2,000 that you can get on a used EV, this means that a subsidy has been applied for for 5,325 second-hand electric cars. There is still €21.75 million (67.1 percent) available, good for another 10,875 subsidy applications.
In January and February there seemed to be an even greater claim to the part of the SEPP subsidy pot that is intended for the purchase of new EVs. In March it became clear that the number of subsidy applications for used electric vehicles increased relatively more strongly. At the end of March, both ‘pots’ were empty in terms of percentage. This month it appears that the part for used EVs is emptying faster than the part intended for new electric cars.
A total of €68.23 million is still available.
