Subsidy for the purchase of an electric car: state of affairs

Of the €99.4 million with which the SEPP subsidy pot was filled this year to boost the purchase of a new or used electric car, 27 percent has now been allocated. Remarkably, applications for the part intended to boost the sale of used electric cars are relatively equal to that of the part intended for new EVs.

On 10 January this year, the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) opened the cap of a new subsidy pot to encourage the purchase and private lease of a new or second-hand electric car. Of the €99.4 million available this year in SEPP grants, €67 million is earmarked to boost sales of new electric cars. You can receive a financial contribution of €2,950 on the purchase of a new EV with a catalog value of up to €45,000. At the time of writing, €18.42 million of the €67 million available at the beginning of this year has been forgiven (27 percent), according to the figures from RVO that AutoWeek has examined.

This means that subsidies have been applied for for 6,244 new electric cars. There is still €48.58 million (73 percent) left, which means that a subsidy can still be applied for for 16,468 new electric cars.

Used electric car

This year €32.4 million is available to boost the sale or private lease of second-hand electric cars, although you can only apply for a subsidy for a used EV with an original catalog value of €45,000. You can receive an allowance of €2,000 on a used electric car. Of the €32.4 million, €8.71 million has been forgiven. The subsidy pot intended for the purchase of second-hand electric cars is therefore also 27 percent empty. Previously, relatively more was claimed for the part that was intended for new EVs. This means that a budget has been requested for 4,355 used electric cars. There is still €23.69 million (73 percent) left, good for another 11,845 electric used cars.

In total, there is still €72.27 million (73 percent) of the total SEPP subsidy pool left.
