Subsidy pot for electric vans already empty

Purchase subsidy is not only available for electric passenger cars, but also for electric delivery vans. Where the first pot is still quite full, the second is now empty. That is earlier than last year, even though subsidies were now available for more electric vans.

The subsidy pot for electric vans is already empty, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management reports. Last year the money only ran out at the end of October, while subsidies were available for more electric delivery vans this year. A total of 7,500 extra delivery vans can hit the road. There was €33 million in the subsidy pot. Last year €22 million was available, good for 5,500 extra delivery vans. This year there was less money available per car: €4,500 instead of €5,000.

According to outgoing State Secretary Vivianne Heijnen (Infrastructure), it is ‘good news’ that more entrepreneurs are purchasing an electric delivery van in the run-up to the introduction of emission-free zones. “I think it is very wise that entrepreneurs, if they can, pre-sort for this now that there is a chance to do so with a subsidy.” From 2025, municipalities can designate emission-free zones. Only delivery vans are allowed to drive there without exhaust fumes. In 2025 it will apply to all new delivery vans and trucks and in 2030 to all. So far, 29 municipalities have announced that they will set up these zones.
