Will there be a Model 3 Plaid?
The updated Tesla Model 3 is available as a rear-wheel drive and as a Long Range, but not yet as a Performance.
From the introduction of the Model 3, the Tesla Model 3 Performance has always been the sporty, fast top version. At the beginning of 2019, this was even the very first Model 3 that we were able to take on the road. The Model 3 Performance distinguishes itself from a regular Long Range with a subtle spoiler, a red stripe under the type designation, larger wheels and larger brakes. It is of course also faster, sprinting from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.3 instead of 4.4 seconds.
Or ‘sprinted’, because the Tesla Model 3 Performance is currently not in the configurator. The car has not yet been presented in a new form, while this applies to the Standard Range and Long Range. Remarkable? Yes, because the drivetrain of the other two versions does not change with the facelift. If this also applied to the Performance, Tesla would probably have simply presented all three cars in a new form. In other words: the fact that the Performance is currently missing suggests that something will change for the fastest Model 3.
Tesla usually does not make statements about future models. The fact that we were guests of the brand for the updated Model 3 is unique, because Tesla usually does not invite the press at all. When we ask about the Model 3 Performance, there are certainly no concrete answers. However, there is some secrecy and no one at Tesla denies that the gap between the fastest Model 3 and the fastest Model S may be a bit large. Reminder: the larger and more expensive Tesla Model S Plaid It goes from 0 to 100 in 2.1 seconds, even faster than a Model 3. We are therefore putting our money on an even faster version of the Tesla Model 3, which is also the only updated Model 3 that gets an upgraded drivetrain. A Tesla Model 3 Plaid? Who knows!
