Super cool: Seiko Save the Ocean Antarctica

Anyone who has ever seen the documentary film ‘March of the Penguins’ immediately fell in love with these funny, loyal and exceptional birds. Unfortunately, the habitat of these emperor penguins is increasingly threatened. The latest Seiko Save the ocean watches are therefore entirely dedicated to this special area: Antarctica.

We previously wrote extensively about the various Seiko Save the Ocean watches in this article. While the previous Save the Ocean edition focused on the stingray from warmer waters, this time the active penguin is the source of inspiration for two special edition watches.

Super cool: Seiko Save the Ocean Antarctica

The latest addition to this series of Seiko watches is entirely dedicated to Antarctica. Because this iciest part of the earth is inextricably linked to the Southern Ocean – the habitat of the emperor penguin – and is threatened by warming waters.

Super cool design

Just like in 2020, Seiko has chosen to give the ‘Monster’ and ‘Baby Tuna’ models a Save the ocean makeover. The design is really super cool and the perfect cooling on hot summer days.

The dials have a fine pattern of gray-blue ice crystals as if you just took the watch out of the freezer. In this icy surface you can see the footprints of a penguin.

SRPG59K1 Baby Tuna

The SRPG59K1 is based on a famous design from Seiko, the Baby Tuna. It is a direct descendant of one of Seiko’s most iconic models from the 1970s. Due to the shape of the strong case built around a titanium core, the watch was nicknamed Tuna Can (can of tuna). This model is much simpler and smaller (hence: Baby), but still has the same look as the vintage Tuna watches.

With a size of 43 mm and short case legs, the watch is – despite its thickness – very comfortable to wear and also suitable for adventurous ladies! What certainly contributes to the wearing comfort is the soft light gray-blue silicone strap, which certainly fits with a summer holiday outfit due to its cool, fresh appearance.

Naturally, the SRPG59K1, powered by a 4R35 automatic movement, is ISO-certified 200 meters waterproof and features a unidirectional rotating bezel.

SRPG57K1 Monster

The second model in this series is based on yet another signature model from Seiko; The Monster. This watch was given this nickname because of its sharp, aggressive design and large size.

The SRPG57K1 is based on the SRPE27K1 Padi edition from 2020. It is basically the same watch with a lug-to-lug size of 49.4 mm. Nevertheless, the hefty watch is very wearable as the case and strap are well designed and provide a comfortable fit.

This Monster is powered by an automatic 4R36 movement, the day-date version of the 4R35. For extra legibility of this date, a magnifying glass has been fitted in the glass, the drop shape of which further enhances the icy appearance of the watch.
