Suzuki also focuses on ‘flying car’

Into the air with twelve propellers

Suzuki also focuses on ‘flying car’

And special message from Suzuki. The company will have what it calls a “flying car” built at one of its Japanese factories next year. What exactly is going on and what can you expect?

The term ‘flying car’ seems to indicate a car that can also take you into the air, but the reality is often different. Flying cars are often so-called eVTOLs (Electric Vehicle Take-Off and Landing Vehicle). These are vehicles that can take off or land vertically and are often less suitable as an actual car. Various car makers are already flirting with the concept of the flying car. For example, Toyota is investing in eVTOLs, Stellantis will produce them and Xpeng is also interested in the concept. Now Suzuki is also joining the list of interested parties.

Suzuki and the Japanese SkyDrive have signed an agreement that allows SkyDrive to operate in Suzuki’s Iwata City factory. It was previously known that Suzuki and SkyDrive would work together, but now the plans have been given a definitive blow. The first SkyDrive flying cars should roll out of the factory in the spring of 2024. The flying car in question is the SkyDrive SD-05, a ‘flying car’ that apparently doesn’t even have wheels. The device can best be described as a combination of a helicopter and an oversized drone. It has twelve electrically powered propellers and can accommodate two occupants. The SD-05 should eventually be able to be used as a taxi, among other things.
