‘Suzuki dives into Dacia’s gap of affordable cars’ – Podcast

A new podcast! Roy discusses driving the new Suzuki Swift and returns to his driving test with the new BMW 550e. Marco looks ahead to a hybrid 911 and driving the new Porsche Taycan GT Turbo. And he’s picking up a nice SUV next week…

In this episode we focus on the new Suzuki Swift. Roy drove the car in France and sees how Suzuki jumps into a gap where Dacia had the market to itself for a long time. The car has been given a brand new 1.2. This has exactly the same cc capacity (1,197) as the 1.2 in the previous Swift, but one cylinder less. No turbo, but a few horsepower of electric support from an electric motor, creating a mild-hybrid system. In total we have 84 hp. This is actually less than the entry-level car from 2004, whose naturally aspirated 1.3 produced 92 hp. On the other hand, it is, at least on paper, extremely economical. With a score of less than 100 grams of CO2/km, it is the most economical petrol car with a manual gearbox currently available.

Marco looks ahead to the new Porsche 911 Hybrid, because will it have a plug or just a mild-hybrid drive? There is hope for nice atmospheric blocks for the GT models, with or without electrical support. With the facelift we will see how far Porsche takes electrification.

In addition, the men go through many reactions from readers and there are the regular columns, in which Marco mentions, as a disappointment, a car that should actually have been the hit of 2024.
