Suzuki Ignis will be out of production in a few months

It will be over and done with for the Suzuki Ignis in a few months. After more than eight years, the Suzuki Ignis will go out of production this year. Charmed by the still uniquely designed and always mild-hybrid Suzuki Ignis? Don’t worry, it seems to be available from stock for a long time to come.

AutoWeek can exclusively report that the curtain will soon fall for the Suzuki Ignis. In any case, the Suzuki Ignis intended for Europe will go out of production in a few months. The Dutch importer confirms this to AutoWeek. Anyone who wants to be able to call themselves the owner of a brand-new copy before the final departure of the Ignis does not need to be in a hurry. Although the Suzuki Ignis cannot be configured for much longer, the Dutch importer expects to be able to supply the Ignis from stock for almost the entire year.

Numbers

Why the Suzuki Ignis loses out? That has nothing to do with the interest in the model, it seems. For example, Suzuki managed to register 1,868 brand new copies in the Netherlands last year. More than the Across (52 units), Swace (57 units), S-Cross (1,342 units) and even more than the Swift (1,559 units). Only the Suzuki Vitara managed to stay ahead of the Ignis last year (2,004 units).

Suzuki Ignis

Long before the current Ignis was presented, there was already a Suzuki with that name.

To date, more than 25,500 Suzuki Iginis have been registered in the Netherlands. Please note: these are not just copies of the current model. Before the current Ignis was presented in 2015, the model name Ignis was not used for a long time. However, between 2000 and 2006 (international: 2008) there was also a Suzuki Ignis for sale. It was available as a three- and five-door and had a twin brother in Europe at the time in the form of the Subaru Justy. Fun fact: this model was also sold as a Chevrolet Cruze and as a Holden (Australia).

Following the Macan

The impending farewell of the Ignis is related to the European GSR regulations that the Porsche Macan and other models are expected to fall prey to this year. The new EU regulation (General Safety Regulations), adopted in 2019 and in force since 2022, imposes various requirements on new cars in the field of safety features. Including in the field of cybersecurity new requirements are imposed. Unfortunately, the Ignis can no longer meet that requirement.

Suzuki Ignis Smart Hybrid

Suzuki Ignis

Always mild hybrid

Back to the current Suzuki Ignis. It always has an 83 hp and 107 Nm strong mild-hybrid 1.2 petrol engine, a four-cylinder that can be combined with a five-speed manual gearbox and a CVT. Just like the Swift, the Ignis is also available with AllGrip all-wheel drive, although you cannot opt for the CVT. So it will still be there this year, but after that it will be over for the little cheeky Suzuki.
