Suzuki invests in ‘flying car’

Is the flying car the future? Companies such as the Dutch PAL-V see it as a niche market for the time being. Suzuki also seems to have ears for a flying car and invests in the Japanese SkyDrive.

Suzuki is investing an unspecified amount in Japan’s SkyDrive, a company that develops drones and ‘flying cars’. Earlier this year, Suzuki and SkyDrive signed a memorandum of agreement in which the two companies made clear that they wanted to work together on a technical level. The goal: to bring a new form of mobility to the market, the flying car in this case.

But is the Flying Car that SkyDrive wants to develop really a car? No actually not. Where the PAL-V can actually drive on the road and is a combination of a car and a gyrocopter, the flying car that SkyDrive is developing is mainly an oversized drone in which one or a few people can take place. Such a means of transport could at most serve as a replacement for the car for some, but that does not make the thing itself a flying car.
