‘Suzuki Jimny five-door approaching’

The current Jimny, together with the Swift Sport, may be the best Suzuki of the past few years. The spartan offroader certainly tastes more in India. In a literal sense.

It is 2018 when the then twenty-year-old Jimny is succeeded by a completely new generation, a model that remained true to the spartan concept of its predecessor, but which was equipped with completely new technology. The Jimny, which is now no longer available in the Netherlands, has yet to enter one of Suzuki’s largest markets: India. If we can believe Indian media, the angular all-rounder will soon be produced in two forms.

Maruti Suzuki, the Indian branch of Suzuki, will produce the new Jimny in Gujarat, India. All copies of the three-door Jimny, it seems purely the non-kei versions, are intended for export martens. In addition, Suzuki would build a second Jimny variant in India: a longer five-door version complete with a longer wheelbase and extra doors. This new Jimny flavor is supposed to hit cars like the Hyundai Creta in India, but will likely also attract buyers who are currently getting into a Vitara Brezza. Striking fact: according to Indian media, part of the production of this five-door Jimny is destined for export markets. Whether this means that the five-door Jimny will eventually also come to Europe and perhaps to the Netherlands, cannot be said with certainty at the moment.

In the Netherlands, 7,792 Jimnys have been sold since the introduction of the Jimny in 1998. Last year, the keys to 171 new-generation Jimny copies were sold. This year the sales counter is at 33 pieces. We are awaiting a response from the Dutch importer about the possible arrival of a five-door Jimny.
