Suzuki does not currently supply its own models with a full hybrid powertrain. That is about to change. The Suzuki Vitara Full Hybrid at the beginning and the starting price remains under €30,000.
The first sentence requires some clarification. Suzuki already supplies fully hybrid models, but those are the Swace (Corolla) and Across (RAV4) ‘borrowed’ from Toyota. Suzuki’s self-developed models have at most ‘Smart Hybrid’ called mild-hybrid drive. That changes with the arrival of a new hybrid powertrain, which Suzuki announced earlier this month. In it, a 102 hp 1.5 four-cylinder does its job together with a 33 hp electric motor, good for a system power of 115 hp. Shifting is done with the help of a robotized manual gearbox, which Suzuki calls ‘AGS’. This powertrain will be available in several models, but the Vitara is the first to appear on the market.
Suzuki is now opening the order books for the Vitara Full Hybrid. It will be available from €28,250. In that case you will be given the keys to the Vitara Full Hybrid in Select trim. This is a step higher than the standard version of the mild-hybrid Vitara, which is available from €24,875. The Select adds 17-inch alloy wheels, a 7-inch infotainment screen and connectivity to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Vitara also has seat heating as Select, a reversing camera and the Suzuki Safety System Pro, with the addition of Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. A step up is the Style, which brings more luxurious upholstery, navigation, front and rear parking sensors and polished 17-inch alloy wheels. As a Style, the Vitara Full Hybrid costs at least €30,750.
Normally, the Suzuki Vitara Full Hybrid is front-wheel drive, but you can also get it with AllGrip four-wheel drive. In that case you have to add €3,000 to the prices. Also not unimportant: you can also tow a trailer with the Vitara Full Hybrid, with a maximum towing weight of 1,200 kilos. The Suzuki Vitara Full Hybrid is expected at the dealer in the first quarter of 2022.
