Too few nitrogen experts

It will take years to tackle the congestion bottlenecks on the A4, the busiest road in the country. It reports that General Newspaper. The delay is because there are too few nitrogen experts to be able to perform the nitrogen calculations that are now necessary. The widening of the A4 between Leidschendam and Leimuiden will be canceled until 2025 in any case.
Currently the major congestion bottlenecks on the A4 are the Ringvaart aqueduct near Roelofarendsveen and the Limesa aqueduct near Leiden. The plan was to remedy these bottlenecks with an extra lane and to completely replace the Ringvaart aqueduct, the oldest in the country. The construction of the Ringvaart aqueduct offers no room for the addition of an extra lane. The replacement operation will cost about €100 million. Fortunately, the Limesa aqueduct does offer that space, but adjustments still need to be made to the entry and exit of traffic between the main carriageway of the A4 and the parallel carriageway, where the slip roads connect.
However, this work will be postponed to 2025 because there are not enough nitrogen experts who can assess whether the work remains within the established standard for nitrogen emissions. The plan will therefore be shelved for the next three years. Incidentally, another part of the A4, the stretch from Leidschendam to the Ketheltunnel, will be given priority. The road also has to be widened on this stretch and an improvement of the connections is planned. However, the fact that these activities have been labeled a priority does not mean that the road workers will be summoned tomorrow. After all, a national order still has to be established within the priority projects.
The widening of the A4 along The Hague has already been considerably delayed due to the nitrogen problem. A new schedule has yet to be announced.
