Taiwanese chipmaker responds to automotive industry shortages

Taiwanese computer chip maker TSMC wants to prioritize automotive chip production as soon as they are able to increase production capacity. There are shortages at various car manufacturers.

TSMC is responding to the growing shortages of computer chips at various car manufacturers. The Taiwanese Ministry of Economic Affairs reports this in response to the worldwide shortage of car chips that is disrupting car production. The company TSMC has announced that it wants to optimize the production of chips first and then increase the production of car chips. In 2020, auto chips accounted for just 3 percent of the company’s total chip sales.

Germany had asked Taiwan to convince Taiwanese producers to do something about the shortage of the auto chips. Recently, reports have been piling up about production delays at various car manufacturers due to the delivery problems of specific parts. Mainly from manufacturers who build in Germany. The shortage affects Audi, Ford, Honda, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, among others.
