The previous generations of cars such as the Mercedes-Benz G-class and Land Rover Defender were in production for an eternity, but the Volkswagen Fox can also do something. However, now the curtain has fallen for the small Brazilian Volkswagen.
A cooled meal can be brought back to a tasty temperature in the microwave, a trick that car manufacturers in South America are all too familiar with. The small Volkswagen, also sold in the Netherlands, exchanges its earthly existence for the automobile heavenly and is in good company there. The Volkswagen fox is merrily carting around next to old-timers such as the first generation Fiat Uno, the Palio and the first Doblò. Other South Americans known here that were in production for an unbelievably long time.

Volkswagen SpaceFox (pre facelift)
When the Lupo left in 2005, Volkswagen was eagerly looking for a successor for the small three-door. The search came to an end that same year with the special decision to bring the Fox to Europe. Launched in 2003 on the South American market, Fox was a hatchback specially developed for the local markets by Volkswagen do Brasil and produced in Brazil and Argentina, which was only available in the Netherlands as a three-door. In Brazil, among others, there were many other body styles in addition to a five-door. Just sit down for a while. The Fox was given a version filled with cross elements that was called CrossFox and later Fox Xtreme, but was also available as an MPV-like variant that depending on the country in which it was delivered as SpaceFox, SportVan, Fox Plus or Suran. . Just like the hatchback, there was also a ‘cross variant’: the SpaceCross.

Volkswagen CrossFox
As mentioned, the Fox was only allowed to sink its teeth into the Dutch market as a three-door. In 2011, the curtain fell for the Fox in Europe and eventually it was the Up that was more tailored to European tastes that would succeed the model. Incidentally, the Up was also marketed in South America, albeit in a remarkably modified form. Speaking of custom shapes, the Up was of course facelifted several times, but went under the knife most thoroughly in 2014. In that year, the car was transformed into a tiny Golf. Incidentally, there was another Volkswagen with that name for the well-known Fox, although it was a two- and four-door sedan delivered in North America based on the Brazilian Gol.

Volkswagen Fox (facelift, 2014)
Between 2005 and 2011, Volkswagen sold 21,290 copies of the Fox in the Netherlands. Not so bad, but of course only a fraction of the total number of Volkswagen Fox produced. In the eighteen years that the car was in production, about 1.8 million units have been produced in Brazil alone. While that’s far from a record number, it’s a hard-to-imagine amount. If you park those 1.8 million Foxes in a row, you would have a traffic jam of no less than 6,840 kilometers.
