Mattia Binotto waves off

Team boss Formula 1 team Ferrari resigns

Bad news for those who have a warm heart for the dark-haired curly head who heads Ferrari’s Formula 1 team. Mattia Binotto is leaving the racing stable.

Ferrari says Mattia Binotto has resigned. Binotto will no longer be the team boss of Scuderia Ferrari, Ferrari’s F1 team, as of December 31.

Ferrari CEO Benedetto Vigna speaks highly of Binotto and the 28 years of service he has had at Ferrari. Vigna says he thanks Binotto in particular for making the Ferrari team competitive again. The outgoing F1 team boss says he has done everything he can over the last 28 years to meet the goals set by himself and Ferrari and wishes Scuderia Ferrari success. It is not yet known who will be the successor to Mattia Binotto.

The past F1 season has come under criticism for Binotto and a number of strategic mistakes made under his leadership. Still, Ferrari achieved a fine result. Charles Leclerc finished in second place behind Max Verstappen, albeit with a huge points difference. Carlos Sainz finished in fifth place.

The new F1 season will start in March 2023.
