Tesla and Volvo dominate the Dutch EV market

Tesla and Volvo are by far the most important players in the electric car market in the first quarter of this year. This and more is evident from figures that AutoWeek requested from Bovag. We will take you through the most popular electric models and the brands that registered the most EVs.

The Tesla Model Y was the absolute king of 2023 in the Netherlands and the plus-sized Model 3 was, not surprisingly, also the ruler of the first quarter of this year. No fewer than 4,133 units were registered in the first three months of this year. This means that about one in seven new electric cars in the first quarter was a Tesla Model Y. The once unstoppable Model 3 is coming back from a dip and is doing very well again with 2,639 registered copies and a third place. However, he must tolerate the ever-popular electric variants of the Volvo XC40, recently called EX40. Of these, 3,372 units have been registered.

The brand new Volvo EX30 enters its first quarter on the Dutch car market in fourth place. With 1,591 registrations, the relatively competitively priced electric crossover had a promising start. Kia is undoubtedly satisfied with the speed at which the Niro Electric flies over the counter. The electric crossover achieved a respectable fifth place last quarter.
