Tesla cuts more jobs at its German factory

Tesla is cutting four hundred jobs at its only European factory, near Berlin. Tesla previously announced that it would be cutting three hundred temporary jobs.

Tesla recently announced that it would cut more than 10 percent of jobs worldwide. For the second time in a short time this also affects the factory in Germany. “The currently weakening sales market for electric cars also poses challenges for Tesla,” the company said as one of the reasons for the layoffs. Tesla has been struggling with disappointing sales for some time, mainly due to fierce competition in the important Chinese car market.

Last week, Tesla announced that the number of temporary employees at its factory in Grünheide, just outside Berlin, will be reduced by three hundred. These are flex workers who work at Tesla through an employment agency. More than 12,000 people currently work there. The American company employs approximately 140,000 people worldwide. Bloomberg reports that Tesla is also disbanding a newly set up marketing team. It is not yet certain whether this also means that Tesla will abandon its intention to start advertising.
