Tesla delivers the millionth car in Europe

An extra cheerful Friday afternoon drink at Tesla: the millionth Tesla in Europe has just been delivered.

Yes: in Europe alone, Tesla delivered one million cars in its relatively short existence. It all started in 2009, when the first Roadsters were registered with a European license plate. Of course, we don’t have to explain what has happened since then: the Model S became immediately popular, certainly in the Netherlands, with the relatively affordable Model 3 we switched to the next gear and the Model 3’s taller brother, the Tesla Model Y, cannot be acquired throughout Europe and is also being built here.

It is now beyond dispute that Europe is certainly not a by-catch for Tesla. The Gigafactory near Berlin proves this, although Tesla previously assembled Model Ss in Tilburg. However, the facelifted Tesla Model 3 underlines the importance of Europe even more, because this significantly updated model was unveiled in Europe and is also the first to be delivered here, well before the American introduction. That is happening very quickly: the first trucks with facelift 3s have already been spotted in the Netherlands.

At the end of 2019, the Model 3 could not be found in the Netherlands. The model became number 1 by far that year.

Now that our country has been mentioned: according to our own data, the Netherlands is good for about 82,000 of those million Teslas. Not crazy after all. The Model 3 was the most frequently registered here with almost 45,000 units, followed by the Model Y with 16,000 units. The latter has been running fast lately, so who knows, maybe those proportions will one day be different.
