Tesla has another record quarter

Tesla delivered another record number of new cars to customers in the third quarter of this year. While that’s a positive thing, Tesla is wary of the problems facing virtually the entire auto industry.

Tesla delivered 241,300 cars last quarter, more than ever before in a quarter. This is evident from the company’s latest figures. About 96 percent of the nearly quarter-million cars Tesla made and delivered to customers were Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla made 228,882 of those models and delivered 232,025. Of the Model S and Model X, 8,941 have been made and 9,275 delivered to customers in the past three months.

Tesla does not disclose in which countries its cars were sold. The company has auto plants in the United States and China, which are the company’s main markets. Tesla is currently working on a large factory near Berlin. There it will, among other things, build the Model Y for the European market. According to the latest plans, that factory may still be operational this month.

The impact of the corona pandemic and the global chip shortage on Tesla’s results appears to be limited for the time being. Many other car manufacturers have already had to temporarily shut down production in the factories because of the problems surrounding the chips. The electric car manufacturer says in a statement that it does suffer from challenges in the supply chain and logistics. Musk sees the chip shortage in the auto sector as the biggest challenge for Tesla, he already said in June. He noted at the time that companies were buying far more computer chips than they actually needed for fear of running into a shortage later on. Experts fear that the chip shortage could continue for a while, as chip manufacturers work to scale up their production.
