Tesla has gas pedals replaced on thousands of Cybertrucks

Pinching or loosening

Tesla is recalling nearly 3,900 Cybertrucks to repair or replace the accelerator pedals. If a lot of force is applied to the pedals, they can become pinched by the interior upholstery. The pedals can also become loose, causing the electric car to accelerate unintentionally.

The car manufacturer received two damage claims from customers in connection with the problem, according to a report to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Tesla repairs the pedals for free.

The recall provides a first indication of the number of Cybertrucks sold since CEO Elon Musk delivered the first vehicles to customers in November. Musk expects the company will likely not reach annual production of 250,000 Cybertrucks until next year.

The futuristic, stainless steel Cybertruck, equipped with bulletproof glass, has a turbulent history. A prototype was first presented four years ago. The truck was initially expected to be available at the end of 2021, but the corona pandemic, shortages in the supply chain, inflation and technical problems caused significant delays. At the end of last year, Tesla CEO Elon Musk delivered the first Cybertrucks to customers at the car company’s headquarters in Austin.

Interest in Cybertruck is disappointing

Interest in the vehicle has been disappointing so far. Several American owners have already found rust spots on their vehicles. Tesla announced earlier this week that it will cut more than 10 percent of jobs worldwide, partly due to the disappointing sales figures of the Cybertruck.
