Traditionally, Tesla comes around the holidays with a major software update. This ‘Holiday Update’ brings a lot of news this time around, especially for Model 3 and Model Y riders.
The information has not yet been confirmed by Tesla itself, but it is questionable whether the little talkative brand plans to do so at all. However, thanks to Teslarati.com and Teslascope’s Twitter account (via one Emulsifide), the main news of Tesla’s major update seems to have surfaced.
First of all, there’s a really new User Interface for the Model 3 and Model Y. It appears to be based on what’s been used in those models since the Model S and Model X facelift, although we haven’t been able to see those cars in Europe yet. trying out. However, the Teslascope photos, which are said to be taken from a Tesla employee’s Model 3, show a markedly different infotainment environment than we now know of this model. The basic layout, with the car on the left and the menus or map on the right, remains intact. However, the design seems slightly different and that certainly applies to the bar at the bottom, in which we find a new layout and new icons.
Those icons, or buttons if you will, contain big news. The bottom bar is said to be able to be arranged as desired, so that you always have frequently used functions within reach. The ‘car’ in the lower left corner calls up a submenu with frequently used functions. That means that things like bluetooth connections and the loading menu can always be found in that corner.
Automatic seat heating
Comfort-enhancing functions are also available. For example, we note a new ‘dark mode’ for the screen, although that was also possible before and it is therefore not entirely clear what exactly is new. Completely new is automatic seat heating for the front passengers. If desired, the front seats automatically ‘join’ the climate control, which saves another action on the screen. After the update, it is also possible to preheat the car if there is little power left in the battery. The warning given for this is still there, but can now simply be ignored.
The ‘waypoints’ function, which (finally) allows multiple navigation destinations to be added in one trip, has been around for a while. With the new update, however, this has apparently been improved, which is why we also find this function in the release notes.
Blind spot camera
The most important news in our opinion is that the Model 3 and Model Y will have a blind spot camera function. This shows the image of the front wing-mounted camera when the turn signal is operated, so the driver always knows what’s on that side of the car. Exactly, as Hyundai and Kia have been supplying for some time now. This turns out to be an extremely handy and safety-enhancing function for those brands, so we can only applaud the arrival of the Teslas.
Nonsense
Significantly less important, but perhaps nice is the ‘Light Show’ function. With this, every Tesla will soon be able to put on a kind of show with flashing lights, a privilege that was until now reserved for the Model X. Also in the ‘nonsense’ category we find new games and a TikTok app, which makes it possible to do this. social media platform on the screen during loading stops.
Update 2021.44.25 is for the time being only for Tesla employees, but should be rolled out on a large scale in the very short term. Keep an eye on the Tesla app (if applicable)!
