Tesla has released its financial results for the second quarter of this year. The brand has made much more profit than in the second quarter of last year, but is seeing revenues decline compared to the first three months of this year.
Tesla made a net profit of $2.26 billion in the second quarter of this year, or about $2.21 billion. That is no less than 98 percent more than in the second quarter of 2021. However, Tesla did a lot better in the first quarter of this year. At that time, the net profit was $3.32 billion, converted about €3.25 billion.
Tesla indicates that it had to deal with limited production capacity in the second quarter, including a closed factory in Shanghai. In addition, production in Germany is not yet running as desired, partly due to problems with suppliers. Tesla indicates that it is fully investing in its German factory and the also young factory in Austin, Texas, to increase production capacity. Despite the results, Tesla is cutting 10 percent of its fixed-salary staff.
Tesla delivered more cars in the second quarter and also sold its cars for an average higher price. In the second quarter of this year, Tesla produced 258,580 cars, less than the 305,407 it built in the first quarter. However, those almost 259,000 cars are considerably more than the 206,421 copies that saw the light of day in the second quarter of 2021. Tesla produced 16,411 Models S and Model X. The Model 3 and Model Y totaled 242,169 built. This means that production in the first half of 2022 is 25 percent higher than in the first six months of 2021. With regard to deliveries, the counter for the first two quarters of 2022 with 254,695 units is 27 percent higher than last year around this time.
