Starting today, Tesla is temporarily offering free use of its Superchargers in border areas near Ukraine. That’s according to an email to Tesla owners circulating on Twitter. Not only Tesla owners, but also owners of other EVs can charge their cars free of charge at the superchargers.
The Superchargers in the towns of Trzebownisko (Poland), Kosice (Slovakia), Miskolc and Debrecen (Hungary) are free to use from today for any EV owner who wants to charge their car. With this, Tesla says it wants to help people to get to a safe location. It is not known for how long Tesla will offer free charging in the places mentioned. Also, Tesla says in the email that it “starts” with the above-mentioned places. It is therefore possible that more Superchargers will be temporarily available for free in the near future.
It is the first time that Tesla also involves owners of other EVs in this gesture. Last year, Tesla made charging temporarily free after the floods in Germany, Belgium and Limburg, but that did not yet apply to owners of other EVs. This is most likely the result of Tesla’s pilot to allow non-Teslas to also use the Supercharger network. The trial recently expanded the brand to Belgium, Germany, France and Norway.
